The initial idea behind this new series of paintings was my interest in the effects of our consumer culture on the enviroment. By placing sculptures and designer furniture against sublime mountains I intended the viewer to ask, is our culture sustainable?
As the series developed, the work became more a comment on the peace and quietude of the artist's life. Hours of solitude dedicated to thought, creation and an on-going dialogue with the work in progress. The chair is the ubiquitous object in any creator's room. The composer, writer or painter sits and dreams, listening for the new ideas to seep in.
These are the not melancholic paintings, but rather paintings about quietness.
Hann has exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. This is her first solo show in Perth.
