Continuing to champion home-grown WA talent and Australian contemporary artists, STALA CONTEMPORARY is proud to announce that its new gallery space is NOW OPEN located at 12 CLEAVER STREET, WEST PERTH (in the West End Arts Precinct) exhibiting a range of diverse contemporary artists' work and exhibitions.
FEATURED ARTIST - JARRAD MARTYN
STALA CONTEMPORARY is delighted to be featuring the work of artis Jarrad Martyn who this week has begun painting a bespoke mural on the entire facde of the new gallery!
A rising star of the WA contemporary art scene, Jarrad was the winner of the prestigious John Stringer Art Award in 2018. Already highly regarded for his insightful paintings and drawings, Jarrad is becoming well-known for his large-scale murals, a natural extemsion of his arts practice. This mural at STALA CONTEMPORARY located at 12 Cleaver Street, West Perth, explores motifs of art history and how we engage with the environment, recurring themes in Jarrad's work.
Thanks to the City of Vincent for their assistance and support on this project; we hope the new gallery mural will activate and enliven the burgeoning West End Arts Precinct!
Bloom explores the relationship between painting and the film image, between personal memory and its connection with the histories of those who are strangers. Working from a long-ago acquired collection of Kodachrome film slides, Wade interprets images and worlds that he has had no direct experience with. Locations, subjects and time periods are unknown but through the process of painting the subjects take on a personal dimension, borrowing memories and elaborating, editing, and drawing out narrative. The work is a process of restoring life to forgotten histories.
