Shana James
Shana James is a mid-career West Australian Artist who works in painting, printmaking and artists’ books. Graduating from a fine art degree at Curtin University in 1989, she has maintained a continued practice over the past 30 years; exhibiting widely in Perth and Melbourne including 8 solo shows. She has works in the Collections of Kerry Stokes, Artbank, The WA Water Corporation, The WA ministry for Culture and the Arts and Monash University. She is currently a Masters by Research Candidate at Edith Cowan University, in Visual Arts; where she is continuing her narrative art practice.
Using the story of Alice in Wonderland as a critical lens, her artwork explores ideas around choice and agency. Through making images related to the story she investigates the interplay between the individual and society; and the self-actualisation of the individual.
