SHANA JAMES - Internal (with William Morris wallpaper)

In Alice in Wonderland there is a part of the story where Alice wants to get through a door way into a beautiful garden but she is too large, later when she is the right size she has left the key on the table and still cannot get in. In this piece I put the doorway in Alice’s torso, and the garden inside her. No matter what size she is the garden is already there. Alice is a representation of all humanity, constantly looking outside herself for understanding. What she wants is far away. There is a garden in which everything can grow inside you if you allow it. And the wallpaper reflects that reality - abundant growth in beautiful tessellating patterns.
