LINDSAY HARRIS - Ngaaditjabin (Becoming Salt)

resin & pigment on hemp 2012, 100 x 100cm

The farm fences dissect and determine space. Farm fences cut across the land and can liberate or subjugate whatever the case may be. They may protect the vulnerability of the native bush from the livestock. They also protect the farmer from the livestock escaping. However, the fences themselves are vulnerable against the invasion of salt. The brown area is the diminishing bush land, which is a refuge for native born animals. The red line is a road. The black dots signify the death of the trees, caused through land clearing and salt.
