This work examines thoroughly the artistry of embroidered fabric through an innovative pâte de verre cast glass technique. I am dedicated to crafting a meaningful connection that honours the timeless elegance of heirlooms. The pâte de verre glass frit adeptly captures the intricate decoration and detail of the design, resulting in a piece that is both delicate and complex. With this work I have pushed boundaries in both size and technique.
Pâte de verre is an ancient technique associated with cast glass. The method is to use finely ground glass powders and frits mixed with a binding agent into a paste to build up a thin lining in a mould The glass is heated until it fuses but not until it flows. I stress that the mould making can be as important as the application of the glass. The heated glass is allowed to completely cool and is coaxed from mould and can be finished by using a variety of coldworking techniques such as polishing.
