The work, titled Bury Me Deep (in the dreams of dirt) 2023 was inspired by the theme of ‘Dirt’ for the upcoming exhibition at Stala Contemporary. The title references a Triffid’s song from the 1980s.The work is a response to the ‘dirt’ I encounter when I travel into remote parts of Queensland (and Australia) to paint en plein air. In particular sites where I have visited family and had the opportunity to paint over the past 30 years.
The works explore my personal experiences of these places and celebrate the harsh beauty of the region.
