'Umpoula Kououkouounji umpoula Ma’apina: We Old Girls work together Make Painting’ - The Old Girls of Lockhart River QLD
The 'Old Girls' of Lockhart River is a term that encompasses a number of senior female artists from Lockhart River, Cape York Peninsula QLD, who have been painting together as a collective. In their short but already impressive history, their work has been exhibited to much acclaim in Australia, Italy and the USA since 2007.
The Queensland art Gallery and the Houses of Parliament (Prime Minister's) Collection have recently acquired works by six of these dynamic artists.
This exhibition showcases the painting and weaving talents of Elizabeth "Queenie" Giblet, Dorothy Short, Maria Butcher, Susie Pascoe, Moira Macumboy, Maureen Sandy, Ina Waradoo, Joanne Butcher, Denise Fruit, Doris Platt, Veronica Piva, Evelyn Omeenyo, Dottie Hobson, Lorraine Clarmont and Natasha Acoom.
