New Frontiers: Recent Graduates of the National Art School (NAS), NSW
New Frontiers is an exciting group exhibition showcasing the dynamic works of eight recent graduates from the National Art School (NAS) in New South Wales. This exhibition highlights the innovative approaches and diverse artistic expressions of emerging artists, offering a glimpse into the next generation of creative talent and highlights the gallery’s ethos of seeking out and fostering interesting work that defies expectations and provokes thought.
Introducing artists Edwina (Weenie) Barton, Lei Feng, Kate Hadley, Emily Heath, India Jablonski, Diane Louw, Belle Raine and Alice Royds, who each bring fresh perspectives and techniques, reflecting the vibrancy of contemporary art. Through a variety of media, these artists explore themes of identity, nostalgia, grief, memory, conceptual enquiry, environment, connection and the complex relationships between self and society.
The title New Frontiers for the graduate exhibition from the National Art School serves as a symbol of Stala Contemporary’s commitment to transcending geographical limitations and redefining artistic expectations. Just as the exhibition showcases the innovative talents of its featured artists, the gallery embodies a pioneering spirit, pushing into uncharted territories that may sometimes lay beyond WA within the art world.
In this exhibition, Stala Contemporary not only highlights the works of emerging talents but also connects the local community to broader artistic movements, creating a dialogue between place and practice. The gallery acts as a conduit for these recent graduates, facilitating their exploration of identities and narratives that resonate beyond traditional borders.
New Frontiers reflects the gallery’s aspiration not only to showcase emerging talents but also to inspire a sense of discovery and exploration wherever it may be found. By bridging geographical divides and challenging artistic norms, we hope to redefine what it means to engage with contemporary art, inviting audiences to embark on new artistic journeys with these rising stars.
