Nazila Jahangir

I sketch, draw and paint every day. Through my paintings, I communicate with the environment around me. My creations put me in the presence of the thing, the world.

I like the direct materiality of traditional media, especially the oil paint. Making new colours, painting on layers, and playing with light are my greatest joys of life. 

My paintings are inspired by stories and characters found in historical paintings. I retell past stories in present scenes. Experimenting with this idea, I work to discover a new form that floats between Real and Ideal realms.
